Foreword from Dr. Mirza M. Kajani, MD Chairman, AKHB for USA

Epidemiological and scientific evidence demonstrates clear links between food and disease development indicating that much of the chronic disease burden is preventable through the modification of lifestyle behaviors.

Healthy eating is associated with reduced risks for many diseases including several of the leading causes of death: hypertension, heart disease, certain cancers, diabetes collectively known as the Non-Communicable Disease (NCD) Simple changes in diet and lifestyle also decrease the risk of overweight and obesity, which are the growing problems of the current age reaching alarming proportions.

The Aga KhanHealth Board for the United States of America realizes that the public domain is flooded with nutrition and diet information from multiple sources. This could be confusing and at times even conflicting. The many obstacles of the readily available high–calorie convenience foods, super–sized portions, and preference for rich ethnic foods combined with the harried lifestyle of each one of us could be challenging.

The National Nutrition TKN team of AKHB USA responded to this very challenge by meticulously putting together practical and easy-to-adopt dietary changes in this eBook, appropriately titled The Active Lifestyle Collection. These sets of rigorously tested delicious recipes are geared to serve all segments of our Jamat without compromising ethnic taste.

Wishing a long and healthy life to all of you!
